Arriving to Bourke St Bakery at 3 o’clock in the afternoon isn’t the wisest decision due to its limited remaining stock, however as a last minute car pool to get some coffee beans from Bar Coluzzi in Darlinghurst we decided to make a pit stop.
Although these tarts were the only remaining type left in the cabinet, I couldn’t complain.
The light crisp and flakey pastry of the tarts are a perfect shell for each of the fillings.
The lemon tart has a real bite to it’s smooth, thick consistency (that could be because it has a heart attacks worth of eggs and cream in it…) but who’s complaining?!
The ginger brulee tart has a strong flavour, however is not too overpowering to make it sickening. And the added texture of the toffee on the top is always a bonus!
Finally the chocolate and sour cherry cookie was mouth salivating. The sweetness from the chocolate as well as the sourness from the cherries made you want more! The cookie had a natural saltiness making the balance even better. The cookies are a nice big generous size (well you’d hope so considering they’re $3.50) however despite this, well worth it.
Suggestions?
Get the chocolate mouse tart with raspberry puree at the bottom with cake crumbs on top. Very moorish as well as the passionfruit tarts with soft meringue!
The lamb and harissa sausage rolls are sublime, as well as the pork and fennel ones.
Overall everything is great!
